Traveling for Work? Here are 5 Useful Tips for Entrepreneurs to Boost Productivity While Traveling

Published

on

The reality is, most of their time is spent on their laptops preparing for an important meeting, or resolving issues that have risen in their company. Many entrepreneurs often also find it challenging to focus and get things done when they’re surrounded by airport passengers rushing around.

Not to mention crying babies or faulty hotel rooms. Essentially, when entrepreneurs are on the road, their productivity can suffer if they’re not careful.

You might be wondering how successful entrepreneurs manage to successfully travel and at the same time maintain, or even boost, their productivity while on the road. What’s their secret?

Here are 5 productivity tips you can immediately put to good use if you’re an entrepreneur who needs to travel:

1.   Skip the Schedules

When you’re traveling for work, it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of it all and forget about other important things you need to do. This, in turn, leads to disappointment and eventually, more stress.

To avoid this, seasoned business travelers highly recommend you not prepare a schedule for your business trip. Of course, you have to show up for a scheduled meeting, but beyond that, give yourself some flexibility. You want your trip to be pleasant.

Since you won’t be able to control what happens during the business trip, it’s far better you skip making a schedule. Instead, you can set the number of hours you must work every day that you’re away. Whether you work in early mornings, or late in the evening, be sure you follow that decision to do exactly that.

2.   Plan Ahead

Staying productive when you’re on a business trip requires planning and preparation. What items do you need to bring in order to help you stay on track? Do you have to download any documents to review while on the train or plane? Can you access those documents on your work or personal phone? Is your laptop’s battery fully charged?

Do you have your business credit cards in your wallet? Ask yourself these simple questions prior to leaving on your trip. Doing so can make all the difference in staying productive.

The best way to go about this is to create a checklist of all the things you have to do before leaving on your trip. Your laptop, documents, planner, chargers, pocket Wi-Fi, and other work and personal essentials are some of the things you may want to include on your checklist. This will ensure you won’t forget essential items and more importantly, your workflow will not be disrupted due to a missing item.

3.   Make Use of Technology

Technology has made it easier for all entrepreneurs to stay on top of their game, even when they’re traveling. With the use of apps on phones, it has become easier for businesses to track and post their progress online.

Technology also helps entrepreneurs monitor and oversee the activities in their company while they’re out of the office.

That’s why it’s a good idea to have apps intended for virtual meetings like Zoom, in case you have to meet with your team on an urgent matter. Other important apps include email, social media, scheduling, and marketing management.

4.   Adjust to the Type of Trip You’re Having

If you’re driving to your destination instead of flying, and your trip takes from 3 to 7 hours, then you probably have to also think about productive things you can do while driving. For some, they make use of the time to make back to back calls.

In between these calls, others find it relaxing and calming to enjoy the scenery they drive through.  You have nowhere to be at the moment, so it’s best to make use of the time to schedule calls that you otherwise wouldn’t have the time to make if you weren’t driving at that time.

5.   Rest When You Can

Finally, rest when you can. There’s nothing more important than getting enough rest. If you have time, no matter how little, try to reflect, meditate, or sleep and embrace the downtime.

Whether during flights or short-breaks in between events, it’s important you breathe and de-stress during the travel. Productivity happens only when your mind has received enough conditioning through some downtime, or a restful sleep the night before.

Stay Productive

Traveling is sometimes a necessity for businesses as many times it opens up a lot of opportunities for growth.

When these opportunities present themselves, financers can help ensure you won’t have to think twice about grabbing such promising ventures.

Staying productive isn’t just about getting enough downtime or utilizing technology while you’re away, but it’s also about preparing your business financially.
