The SuperKools Crafting Their Sound and Charting Their Course

The SuperKools have carved out a unique niche. Their blend of blues, soul, and rock and roll has captivated audiences and filled venues. But what goes on behind the scenes? How does this quintet craft their distinctive sound, and where are they headed?

At the heart of The SuperKools’ music lies a collaborative songwriting process that draws on each member’s strengths. “It’s like a musical potluck,” Joe Anglin, guitarist and vocalist, explains. “Someone brings in the main dish – maybe a catchy riff or a chorus – and we all add our own flavors to it.”

This democratic approach to songwriting has resulted in a diverse catalog of original compositions. From the soulful ballad “Whispers at Dawn” to the high-energy rocker “Midnight Train to Warsaw,” each song bears the unmistakable stamp of The SuperKools while showcasing the band’s versatility.

Ian Anglin, Joe’s brother and the band’s keyboardist, sheds light on their creative process. “Sometimes a song comes together in an hour, and sometimes it takes weeks of tweaking. We’re not afraid to scrap ideas or completely rework a song if it’s not clicking. Our goal is always to create something that resonates with our audience.”

The band’s influences are as diverse as their sound. “We’re like musical magpies,” Chris Long, bassist and vocalist, chuckles. “We pick up shiny bits from everywhere.” The bluesy growl of Howlin’ Wolf, the soulful crooning of Otis Redding, the rock and roll energy of The Rolling Stones – all these and more find their way into The SuperKools’ musical DNA.

But it’s not just the legends of yesteryear that inspire them. “We’re always listening to new music,” drummer Tyler Chapman says. “Whether it’s indie rock, neo-soul, or even electronic music, we’re open to incorporating fresh sounds into our style.”

This openness to evolution is key to The SuperKools’ plans for the future. With a growing fan base and increasing recognition, the band is setting its sights on broader horizons. “We love our Indiana roots,” Megan Arndell, the band’s powerhouse vocalist, affirms. “But we’re excited to share our music with a wider audience.”

The album, tentatively titled “Hoosier Nights,” promises to be a love letter to their home state while showcasing the band’s growth. Several tracks are already available on streaming platforms, offering fans a tantalizing preview of what’s to come.

But The SuperKools’ ambitions extend beyond just recording. They’re also focusing on expanding their live performances. “We’re planning a regional tour,” Ian Anglin shares. “We want to bring our music to new cities, connect with more fans, and really establish ourselves beyond Indiana.”

This desire to grow doesn’t mean they’re abandoning their roots. The band remains committed to the local music scene that nurtured them. They’re actively involved in mentoring younger musicians and participating in community events.

As they look to the future, The SuperKools are also embracing new technologies to connect with fans. They’re active on social media, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of their creative process and live performances. They’ve even hinted at the possibility of live-streaming concerts for fans who can’t attend in person.

As The SuperKools continue to evolve and expand their reach, one thing remains constant: their commitment to crafting authentic, soul-stirring music. With their unique blend of influences, collaborative approach to songwriting, and ambitious plans for the future, The SuperKools are poised to make waves far beyond the borders of Indiana.

For fans eager to be part of The SuperKools’ journey, the band encourages following their social media accounts for the latest updates. And for those who haven’t experienced their electrifying live performances yet, their tour schedule is available at www.superkools.com. As The SuperKools like to say, “The best is yet to come!”
