A child’s teeth are very crucial to be healthy. The baby teeth need to be well-taken care because it holds space for adult teeth. You need to prevent baby teeth from getting tooth decay. Tooth decay causes your child to go through a lot of pain when eating or brushing. It also makes it challenging for your child to chew food.

Tooth decay can have bad breath. Thus, it will make your child embarrassed to associate with other kids. It may also cause future complications for your child’s adult teeth. Research shows that most kids start having their first tooth at the age of 4-7 months. The following are some of how you can keep your child’s teeth healthy.

Prevent Tooth Decay

Tooth decay occurs when the tooth bacteria converts sugary food from the teeth to acid. The acid erodes the tooth. Moreover, the corrosion from the acid can end up making holes in the tooth. It would be best if you prevent tooth decay from getting to your child’s tooth as soon as they start growing. The first healthy step to follow is cleaning your child’s tooth daily. As your child grows, teach your kid to brush twice a day in the morning and evening. It would be best if you used fluoride to prevent tooth decay. You should also prevent your child from eating too many sugary candies in a day.

Brushing Guide for Healthy Teeth

Brushing their teeth is an essential step when it comes to healthy gums and teeth. Start the process of brushing their teeth as soon as the baby gets his or her first tooth. You can start the cleaning process using plain water and a clean cloth. Alternatively, you can use a soft kid’s toothbrush.

It would be best if you made teeth brushing a part of your daily routine, especially before going to sleep. As your child grows and their teeth start filling up their mouth, teach your child to use toothpaste. It can happen from the young age of two to three years.

Use a small amount of toothpaste the first time you introduce it to your child’s teeth-brushing regimen. Your child should spit out the toothpaste and not swallow it. After that, ensure your child washes off the toothpaste using clean water until it’s all clean. When your child takes in too much fluoride, it will create white spots on the adult tooth.

By the time your child gets to 7 or 8 years, they’ll know how to brush independently. It’s therefore essential to teach your child good healthy habits from a young age. A proper session of teeth brushing should take approximately two minutes each time. However, it depends on how dirty the teeth are before brushing.

Also, you need to make tooth brushing fun for your kids to love it. You can make it fun by using junior toothpaste because it is sweet. Your child can also use the toothbrush that looks pleasing to your kid. You can also put music as your child is brushing so they can find it fun.

Use Fluoride Toothpaste and Fluoride Supplements

Fluoride is a form of mineral that prevents the tooth from tooth decay. Ensure you check out if the toothpaste you are using has fluoride. The best fluoride for your child to use is fluoride varnish, as it helps prevent tooth decay. Some tap water has fluoride in it. However, if your tap water does not have fluoride, consider using fluoride supplements. The fluoride supplements are for kids who are between 6 months and five years.

Regular Dentist Checkups

Your child’s teeth are also still growing, and thus some of the teeth will be falling out. Once they get all of their adult teeth, you can consider visiting Invisalign dentist near me for checkups and consultation services and to help their smile be straight and pretty, if they need it. A general dentist will be important too, as the dentist will help you keep your teeth white and healthy, giving them the confidence to smile.

Healthy Foods and Drinks

The food that the child takes in contributes to the tooth being healthy. Healthy foods include vegetables, whole grains, fruits, lean meats, and beans. Kids love eating snacks that are sweet and sugary. Consider giving your child health-friendly snacks. The food that your child takes in should have calcium in it. Other healthy foods include milk, yogurt, and cheese. Healthy drinks include water, fruit juice, and milk.

Keeping healthy teeth and gums for your child is beneficial even in the future years. Parents should follow the healthy tooth guide to keep a broad smile on their child’s face.
